When to see an Occupational Therapist (OT):
- Treatment of a specific diagnosis or condition
- Training on a specific piece of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) to address / ease a specific diagnosis
- Fitting and assessment for customized DME
- Client condition/ multiple complications that requires skilled assessment and treatment planning
- ADL training related to a specific deficit
When to see an Physical Therapist (PT):
- Treatment of a specific diagnosis or condition
- developing a highly specialized work out routine / treatment plan due to a new injury / illness or highly complex medical history
- training on mobility devices
When to see a Dietitian:
- Client requires a specific diet to address a specific condition
When to see a doctor:
- Requesting medications
- Requires changes in medications
- Yearly physical and to assess changes in conditions
- Monitoring of acute and chronic identified diagnoses
- Diagnosis of an illness/ injury
When to see a mental health professional ( psychologist / psychiatrist/ counselor):
- When a client discusses actively or intention to harm one’s self
- Prescribing and modification in psychiatric medications
- Symptoms of depression: loss of appetite, loss of interest in tasks that were once loved, changes in sleep/ energy level/ concentration, severe loss of self esteem
- Individual discussion related to overcoming past trauma and abuse
